HYPER-I-NET will offer a total of 17 research contracts:
  • 12 contracts will be specifically targeted to early-stage researchers (ESRs). A total period of 36 months is envisaged for 10 of the ESR contracts, based on an estimated period of 24 months at the host laboratory plus 12 months (one or two additional appointments) at laboratories of other partners. In addition, two shorter ESR contracts of 12 months are envisaged for more experienced researchers closer to completion of their PhD.
  • 5 contracts will be specifically targeted to experienced researchers (ERs) to cover specific aspects of the project that are too demanding to be tackled by an ESR.

The fellowship is open to students interested in developing research in one (ore more) of the following fields: pattern recognition, image/signal processing, machine learning, remote sensing, synthetic aperture radar, and radar. For a complete overview of the fields of interest of the Remote Sensing Laboratory please refer to http://rslab.disi.unitn.it/ Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento, Italy The applications for year 2010 will be open soon and available at this link Prof. Lorenzo Bruzzone, email lorenzo.bruzzone [AT] ing.unitn.it Download PDF file
The fellowships are open to young Ph.D. interested in developing research in the field of pattern recognition, image/signal processing or radar with specific application to remote sensing. In particular, the activity should be focused on one (or more) of the following topics: Hyperspectral image analysis and classification; Advanced machine learning techniques for remote sensing data analysis; Analysis of very high resolution (VHR) multispectral images; Analysis of VHR SAR images (e.g. bulding detection, object extraction, etc.); Analysis of subsurface radar sounder signals for icy shell monitoring on the Earth (Artica, Greenland, Antartica) and on planetary bodies (e.g. Marsis polar caps; Europa, Ganymede and Callisto Jupiter moons). Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento, Italy The selected candidates should join the Remote Sensing Laboratory starting in a period between May 2010 and December 2010. The research work of the PhD student in our lab concerns the development of models and retrieval algorithms using spaceborne or airborne remote sensing data for land applications. In particular, the synergy of optical (VIS+NIR) and microwave (SAR) data might yield improvement in order to obtain bio- and geo-physical parameters for vegetated (forestry, agricultural) areas and bare soil surfaces. Requirements: Master of Science in Engineering Sciences or Physiques. Good knowledge of optical and/or microwave remote sensing and electromagnetics. Space Center EPFL1 of Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale 2 de Lausanne, Switzerland The starting data will be as early as possible after admission to the EPFL doctoral program.
