D5.2 “Calibration training programme review and statistics” has been released.
Here is the Summary of the document.
Field radiometric measurements are considered reliable enough to be used as reference for vicarious calibration procedures and used for numerous remote sensing applications in the fields of agronomy, forestry, water quality and soil. Radiance and reflectance measurements are normally taken using field spectrometers and trusted regardless the date of the last calibration or the measurement accuracy. Nevertheless, not all spectrometers perform with the same accuracy. Each instrument has its own measurement bias depending on the optics and sensor.
The partners involved in Hyper-I-Net are a good sampling of the remote sensing community working with spectroscopy data. An intercomparison exercise where they are invited to participate with their own hand- held spectrometers is an opportunity for them to gain consciousness about the uncertainty of field measurements. In this document, the operational plan for a hand-held spectrometer intercomparison within the Hyper-I-Net summer school activities in 2010 is presented. Hyper-I- Net partners are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the outlined experiment by bringing their spectrometers to the intercomparison exercise scheduled during the Hyper-I-Net summer school 2010 at DLR Oberpfaffenhofen.

D2.2 “Survey of hyperspectral sensor requirements” has been released.
Here is the Summary of the document.
This document has been developed within the framework of the EC Hyperspectral Imaging Network (Hyper-I-Net) project, a four-year (2007-2010) FP6 Marie Curie Research Training Network, designed to build an interdisciplinary European research community focusing on hyperspectral imaging activities. The network currently consists of a multidisciplinary team comprising fifteen highly experienced European partner organizations; collaborations with other international partners in the field of hyperspectral imaging research are being promoted. This document is a survey of the requirements for hyperspectral sensors. Every sensor is dedicated to one or many applications; the design and the specifications of sensors are determined by the applications. The HYRESSA project created standards and statistics of the importance of each sensor parameter to the user’s community. In addition, the results of a second survey focusing on the MIR and TIR wavelength are included, since the focus of HYRESSA is more on the VNIR/SWIR wavelength range. In the following section, the Airborne Reflective/Emissive Spectrometer (ARES) is taken as an example of how hyperspectral sensor requirements are defined. ARES is a sensor covering the solar reflective and thermal wavelength regions.
Finally, a summary is given, combining the results of the two surveys, looking for frequently required parameters values for most of the applications. Additionally, the highest requirements are listed and an “ideal” sensor is tentatively defined.

A new window on the web for the Hyperinet project.
The new Hyperinet website has been launched in May, featuring a new graphic layout and an improved structure of contents.
The restyling aims at presenting in a more attractive and immediate way the activities and results performed by the project partners.
Bright colours highlight the most relevant topics on the home page, where a specific place has been devoted to the latest project news. Highlighted topics will change on a bi-weekly basis, so that users will be encouraged to discover the recent developments and findings.
In the internal pages, contents have been organized with more rational criteria, in order to support the navigation among an amount of information which is growing fast, thanks to the intense research activities performed by partners.
